R and L.

More impressive to me than RandL's product is their lifestyle. For two couples to come together in almost all aspects of their lives to live out what they are passionate about is beyond cool to me. I'll let them tell you about it themselves. From their website:
In 2008, two creative couples merged their funds and lives to purchase a tidy side-by-side duplex in the Scandinavian neighborhood of Ballard in Seattle, Washington. With separate living spaces above, the basement garages were joined to create a shared work space for all!

On the Right - Jean&Chika's home-business studio and R&L Goods central. Well stocked with 4 sewing machines, cutting tables, a loom, a knitting machine, and countless fabrics and notions from years of compulsive collecting. All R&L Goods are designed and made right here!

On the Left - a workshop for house projects and a general mess space. Past times and current obsessions include slip casting, laser cutting, re-upholstery, door refinishing, leather working, and bicycle maintenance.

The joined yard is full veggies in the Summer and weeds in the Winter and (as usual) we have some grand plans in mind. Jean wants a chicken coop, Dylan wants less lawn to mow, Jared wants a fire pit, and Chika wants to eat all the Kale and Arugula they can grow.

From collaborative home/business ownership to collaborative projects and picnics - we believe in working together to achieve more than the sum of our parts. We aim to offer casual, yet distinctive everyday necessities that compliment the Right&Left sides of your brain, the creative and logical sides of your life.

I think that is awesome.

I'm a big fan of Happy Socks, and they offer an OK selection of Hemp/Recycled Yarn socks but I wish they had the spunk of their traditional offerings.

Suck Six Stainless Straws. (say that six times fast.)

Photobucket
I overheard a conversation about food addiction on TV and they were explaining how to know if you have one. The speaker said "if you get anxiety about not having ______blank______ for a period of three days"...than it classifies as an addiction. I have no such food addictions. Then I glanced (longingly) at my sparkling water and indeed the thought of going even one day without it makes me break out in a cold sweat. For reals. I have made the attempt to go without before and I have just one word for you--GRUMPY. That is the nice word, there is probably a more fitting one. To relieve the guilt of my 'habit,' as I guess I must now refer to it, I buy it in cans rather than plastic and I recycle them. Anyway, I do have an acrylic straw that one of my children got at a birthday party that I havestolen borrowed because there is something more gratifying about drinking my sparkling water from a straw. I am crazy. Period. Is it nuts to add these stainless straws to my birthday list? Don't answer that.

Hammocks & High Tea.

Photobucket
Beyond the eco-ness, the thing I like most about the goods at Hammocks & High Tea is that you find a pattern that you love and then you have several product options. For your home you can choose from an accent pillow, table runner, tea towels and such. For personal use there are totes and my favorite-the dopp kit. Did you know I have a thing for chevron? Well this season I'm totally nutso for the ikat version. Done.
