Green Tip {Tuesday}

Be smarter about takeout. In a perfect world we would always cook wholesome meals at home with fresh produce from our organic garden or local farmer's market. Well, I hope I'm not the first person to tell you that this is not a perfect world and home cooked meals are not always possible. When getting takeout is absolutely necessary, just be smart about it. How many packets of ketchup do you really need? Next time you place an order, ask them to omit things like paper napkins, plastic utensils, condiments, and chopsticks. By the way, chopsticks alone cost China about 25 million trees a year. You can even ask your establishment if you can supply your own containers, as this practice is becoming more acceptable. Finally, encourage your frequent establishments to go Styrofoam free and make the switch to biodegradable packaging and utensils.
