There Are Always Two Sides To A Story.

My opinions on global warming are ever evolving, but that's not what this post is about. This post is about your opinions and how you came to them. I am passionate about making decisions based on knowledge. I am a knowledge seeker on all fronts, and I seek out the opposing theories and study them. If you haven't yet pondered the 'global warming is a farce' theory, this lecture is an excellent primer. If you choose to watch the lecture, leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks for posting this - it's good to have open discussion on these types of topics. I've been following "Climategate" fairly closely... The conclusion that I have come to - regardless of any climate change that we are or aren't experiencing, I feel we should be continuing to consider our impact on the planet. Are the seas going to rise to unbearable heights in the next 10-30 years? Hard to say - especially now. But will another child get asthma, or another person get cancer because of pollution, and are we doing harm to the earth? Yes. So I personally feel we need to keep seeking out ways to live our lives that are more environmentally friendly, and let our governments know this is important to us. So there's my piece! Much more serious than my normal blog musings :) Thanks for giving us the opportunity to voice our opinions.

Amy,
Thank you for opening up and leaving your opinion here. I'm more than thrilled when people leave their mark on my space. Positive OR Negative.

In this case, I couldn't have said it better. If I written my opinion it would have sounded eerily similar to yours. The only thing I probably would have added would be my opinion on our food sources and the effects on both our environment and our health.

Thanks Again,
Green {Goody}

Hey - glad to hear we are on the same page with things. The food issue is so tough too. I read this article and got kind of discouraged: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/debunking-our-fetish-of-the-fresh/article1375159/

Not necessarily the people selling the Atlantic salmon in this article - but there is so much greenwashing that goes on with products, that it gets tough to know which ones truly have a smaller impact sometimes...

I've heard Sweden is labelling at least their food in relation to it's carbon impact but I would really love to see this for all products here in North America. To some extent as the above article illustrates, sometimes we are flying blind and it makes it so challenging for the average consumer to properly identify their actual impact... Would love to hear if you have heard of any folks who are working to move forward with getting things labelled here!

Cheers,

Amy

This is an other side version of the Global warming debate...It is good to know the other side of the story too....I am not sure if these skeptics been to regions in Asia and Africa to actually feel the climate change?..Ok, agreed that the projections were off the chart...but these people too dont deny the rise right? There have been more droughts and floods than ever recorded in the last two decades.

I am yet to know more about the debate these denying groups have against all the non biodegradable products and their impact on the planet. I am yet to research on that ..but would appreciate any lead

The main problem is you have scientists, which an overwhelming majority agree in global warming, being put on a 'level playing field' with skeptics and scientific 'laymen' who are confusing the idea. I liken it much to the link between smoking and cancer. If an overwhelming majority of Doctors were to tell you that smoking causes cancer (as they pretty much have since the 60s now) but a general population is skeptic due to counter-marketing, financial interests, etc... You can see it all play out as it has.

My theory is that global warming will follow a similar trend. It wasn't until smoking related cancer deaths had reached near epidemic levels that it actually 'clicked' in the minds of the masses. Similarly, it won't be until the major climate change related floods, hurricanes and weather events occur that it will click in the minds of the masses. Unfortunately, it will be too late by then, which is precisely the point of the 'panic' by scientists.

I hope that someday scientists will be placed in the minds of the people as experts in their field much as Doctors, Preists and (unfairly as it seems) Politicians and Lawyers are today.

I'm loving the dialog. Thank you all for leaving a piece of your thoughts here on my space. It gets lonely sometimes.

Amy,
Thank you for clarifying, nothing personal as far as my tweet is concerned. I like you, I'm just not a fan of people leaving links in my comments. I have been on Twitter for two years, and it's a great community, but I had to let up a bit. I have many other projects and very little time.

This is the most persuasive argument I have heard against the existence of global warming yet. Thank you for posting this, as I need a little juice to get me going from time to time! I don't know the actual truth about what this person says unless I can verify it for myself (and that would require a lot of time spent in research)... but what I do know is that things have changed a lot in my short lifetime, and I have heard reports of things changing like never before in others lifetimes - and even over spans of generations. The health of those around me, as well as my own health, has been compromised due to some of these changes. Take a walk down any semi trafficked street and you will take note of the pungent fumes that make breathing unpleasant. Look in any common grocery and you will see that food has become something it never ever should have. Global warming or global cooling... it doesn't really matter to me. The fact is things are not as they should be, and efforts need to be made to return to the reality that we live on a planet that needs to be cared for. To endlessly dump pollutants onto it, and into it's atmosphere, clearly is not an argument worth making.

I really appreciate your blog Cameron. It's been a while since I have visited!

Abby,
I've missed you and your compelling and clear headed comments. I'm so glad to have you back. I completely agree with you, whether or not any of us believe global warming to be fact, we have a responsibility to care for our environment. Hope you'll come back often.
