The Feed Your Soul: free art project is a great resource for some really cool (FREE!) art for your home. I love the motivation behind the project, Jen Wallace from Indie Fixx said it best-

"Well, I love art and I know you do too. I also know that when people start to tighten up the purse strings they tend not spend money on things that aren’t necessary for survival, things like books, magazines and art. But, art is important for your soul. It helps rejuvenate, it’s thought-provoking, offers inspiration and can generally brighten an otherwise dreary day among other things. Ork.

I don't live in a cool city. fact. My city is absent from Ork's arsenal of cool city screen prints. To all of you who don't live in a hip city either- Ork now offers a map of the heart, which I think is a pretty awesome substitute.

Alexander The Great.

If you have a interest or history in design, then you know Alexander Girard. If you don't, no problem, learn.

In collaboration with Girard's estate and Pfeiffer Lab. Columbia Forest Products has re-issued select artwork that was first used as part of the 1970's Herman Miller Environment Enrichment Panel Program.

For the first time since 1972 these graphics are now available as wall art, screened onto 14"x14" panels of Columbia's formaldehyde-free maple faced hardwood plywood. The PLYprints™ program draws on Girard's history of printing directly on wood in such places as The Compound restaurant in Santa Fe. The goal for this collaboration is to bring the artwork of an American design legend to a new generation through products that are sustainably and responsibly produced with the same sensitivity to the environment that Alexander Girard demonstrated during his lifelong career.

The estate chose to work with Columbia Forest Products because PureBond® is the only widely available cost-neutral formaldehyde-free plywood panel. Girard had a long history of environmental concerns, especially about pollution, and PureBond® technology offers a way to mitigate indoor air problems by eliminating the risk of toxic and carcinogenic VOC's that can be released by composite wood panels made with urea formaldehyde resins.

Running The Numbers.

Running The Numbers by photographer Chris Jordan, looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics. Each image portrays a specific quantity of something: fifteen million sheets of office paper (five minutes of paper use); 106,000 aluminum cans (thirty seconds of can consumption) and so on. Depicts 106,000 aluminum cans, the number used in the US every thirty seconds.


Depicts 1.14 million brown paper supermarket bags, the number used in the US every hour.


Depicts two million plastic beverage bottles, the number used in the US every five minutes.


Depicts one hundred million toothpicks, equal to the number of trees cut in the U.S. yearly to make the paper for junk mail.


Depicts 320,000 light bulbs, equal to the number of kilowatt hours of electricity wasted in the United States every minute from inefficient residential electricity usage (inefficient wiring, computers in sleep mode, etc.).


Depicts 28,000 42-gallon barrels, the amount of of oil consumed in the United States every two minutes (equal to the flow of a medium-sized river).
