Pause.

Life has gotten away from me. My heaping bucket of responsibility is overflowing and I have neglected some very basic needs of late. My son needs to see the eye doctor, my daughter has pending school projects, and well- my floors need to be mopped. So I have decided to participate in a technology fast, no Internet and no TV. I have never done this before and quite frankly I'm not sure I can. If such a thing as Internet withdraw exists- I will be it's victim. The only thing I will be connected to is my iPhone, and I will try to limit it's use as well. I will return here on Friday for Etsy Find {Friday} and I will probably update Twitter sporadically. See you Friday!

For the majority of humanity 2008 was a difficult year; for the {Goody} family it was no different. Personally our family faced many difficulties and much uncertainty. We relocated and regrouped. My husband started a new business and I started a blog. We made educational decisions for our children and financial decisions for our family. All and all it was a year of reflection and revelation.
I look forward to even more personal growth in 2009. This year I will turn thirty and will celebrate my ninth wedding anniversary. This year I will travel. This year I will make a new friend. This year I will open up an Etsy store. This year I will take a college photography course. This year I will finally lose the "baby" weight. That may mean that this year I will have to give up my addiction to gourmet cheese. This year I will be even greener {stay tuned.}
I hope that you--the loveliest readers of the internet spend this next year with me.

Gratitude.

A big "Thank You" to Rikkianne from Chakra Pennywhistle for her kind words and the feature on her blog. Each time a reader claims to have learned something new here, it renews the spirit that drives this blog. The best part of Green {Goody} for me is building a relationship with my readers- because quite frankly internet friendships are easier. Love to you all and especially to you, Rikkianne.

A Moment to Rant.

I will make this quick. As the green trend advances I become more and more discouraged. I see overpriced green products popping up EVERYWHERE, I see companies marketing themselves "green" for profit. My Google reader is full of posts promoting Eco friendly couture. Don't get me wrong, I am not oppose to paying more for great Eco friendly products that I NEED, but please remember it should be about less and not more. I see unconsciousness creeping in to what should be a very conscience movement. And last but not least: Do not buy your children a $150 Eco friendly dollhouse and boast about how you are teaching them to be green.

Birds The Word.

Is everyone as caught up in the Thanksgiving prep as I am? Posting will probably be light this week, but you never know, I sometimes find this blog hard to resist. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday. See ya around.

Stitch Rocked.

Recently I attended Stitch Rock, an indie craft bazaar in downtown Delray Beach. The venue was the vintage gymnasium in Old School Square and it's awesome! It is not a large venue but it has amazing charm. I bought a few crafty goodies, click here for my favorite vendor. What excited me the most was learning about the Stitch Bird Workshops. The workshops are held once a month at Bear and Bird and feature a funky crafty project. See here or here. I can't wait to attend one, and if you want to come along, let's carpool!

A Corner of My World
These are just two of my vintage American Tourister suitcases, and I love them. The brown one is perfect for a two day trip and the green Tiara edition is perfect for about a week. I have been lucky enough to find both of these cases in my local Goodwill, and they are in PERFECT condition both inside and out. I prefer my vintage Tourister's in their original state but the Etsy shop Get Ready, Set, Go has some great modified suitcases.

Who are you voting for?
This will be my last political post until Election Day, I will no longer eject my political views into this blog. I thinks this video speaks for itself, it says that we watch entirely too much political based television in our home, and that Obama appeals to a younger crowd.

This is my 100th post, it has been a sweet ride thus far. I never imagined that I could form a "relationship" with my blog but that is exactly what has happened. Each factor of a human relationship exists between me and the Green {Goody}; love and respect, excitement, frustration, fear, and occasional laziness. I have been honored each time you have left me comments, it feels great to know that someone is listening and possibly learning. I have a lot more to give to this blog and I hope that you will stick with me and keep reading. Here's to the next 100!

A Day to Remember
No day in recent history is more memorable than September 11, 2001; we can all remember where we were when we learned that a plane had flown into the World Trade Center. I was a new mother, my oldest daughter was only 7 months old, and I was terrified. What did this mean for her, how safe was her future? One of the pilots, Mohammad Atta, had lived in an apartment 2 miles from my home while in flight school. I remember driving by that apartment and wondering if I had ever encountered that man unknowingly. I remember being paranoid about who else could be lurking in my neighborhood. That period of time was so unsettling for us all. Take a moment to remember that feeling, all the people we lost that day and soldiers we have lost since. This is one day I will not focus on how many MPG my car gets, or how bad our economy is, but rather I will be reflecting on how blessed I truly am. {♥}
Burned Out.

Here's my true green confession; I'm burned out. Lately I have been so consumed with thinking green, and by this I mean constant thoughts of - Is this green? How can I make this more green? Can I blog about how green this is? Am I really green? Are my kids even getting this whole green thing? You get my point? I need a green hiatus, would I feel better if I left a room and kept the light on, or drove my car around with no place to go? You known a green rebellion of sorts. I'm not sure what the answer is, but I can say that this lifestyle has become burdensome. I need to go back to the infancy stage, the excitement of the green discovery. I still enjoy meeting people who have that sparkle in their eye, they are excited about the changes they are making, I want that back. I think what I am suffering from is a condition known as Post "Green" Depression; symptoms include- environmental anxiety, Eco fatigue, green guilt, and organic paranoia. Support group to start soon. Tees For Change

I have been struggling with the thought that I need to get a tad bit more personal here, well you can't get anymore personal than one's political views. I am a republican and an Obama supporter (so now you know that I have hopped political parties, it's OK I'm prepared for the rejection.) Join me and support Barack Obama's campaign in an Eco friendly way! This site offers creatively designed 100% organic tees printed with water based dyes. Leo likes it!

Something's Missing

Today is Cole's first day of Kindergarten, a huge milestone in his short little life. Something about sending your child off on this day causes you to reflect upon their previous 5 years. I'm not new to the first day of kindergarten phenomenon, two years ago I wrote about Faith's first day. This time is different, I do love all of my children equally but each one of them brings something special into our family, Cole brings a certain something that I need each day. It is the sweet and genuine love that he has for each of us. He will randomly approach me with kisses and I love you's. He has an inherit kindness and compassion that are not present in my other children. He thinks of others more than he thinks of himself, and how many five year olds can you say that about. He has a wit and sense of humor that is unique, and I have never heard a more infectious laugh. I say this all now with pride because Cole's first four years were difficult. He was a child born with what we like to call "quirks," sensitivities that even as a baby caused him great anxiety. It was not until he was a toddler and could communicate that we began to understand why he would get so upset. He was a child that refused to wear conventional shoes (thank you God for Crocs), would obsess over the length of all articles of clothing and had difficulties with the texture of certain foods. Cole would chew his chicken to the point that it was unrecognizable, he would even gag and throw up trying to get it down. As a mother I was worried that he would not be ready for Kindergarten when that time came, today I am so proud of how far he has come. As I walked him (wearing his new conventional shoes) into class today I was confident that he was prepared and could even thrive in that environment. Today my only concern about Cole and Kindergarten is whether or not I am prepared to let him go.

You may have heard that the lovely blogger Stephanie "Nie" and her "Mr. Nielson" were in an airplane crash on Saturday. This sad news hit very close to home for me; I read her blog because Nie and I have many similarities, we are close in age and both have 4 children of similar ages. My heart goes out to her family and I will be keeping them both in my prayers. Nie and her family had a balloon wish tradition and the family has asked well wishers to write thoughts of faith and hope on helium balloons and release them on Saturday at 5:00 pm AZ time (MST/7:00/Central/8:00/Eastern) Pictures can be emailed to Nie's sister, c jane and she will be posting them on Monday.

The Craziest Thing I Have Seen While Back to School Shopping

These are size 4T shorts, a size that could only be worn by a kindergartner or the tiniest of first graders, with a clearly labeled cell phone pocket. I do not support the idea of giving elementary students cell phones, and in kindergarten, well that is just absurd. What do you think?

Random conversation between my children while in the back seat:
Kate: Wouldn't it be funny if God was bald?
Faith: Yeah.
Cole: Guys don't make fun of God!
Faith: God really could be bald, we don't really know what he looks like.
Kate: {snickering} That would be funny.
Cole: God is real, I like God.
{Long Pause}
Cole: I love chocolate.
