Yo Mato.

Could someone please tell me what is eating away at my tomatoes? Then could you please suggest an organic solution. Thanks.

P.S.S. Campbell’s is giving away seeds of the tomatoes they use in their soup. For every packet of seeds you request, Campbell’s will donate seeds to community and school gardens and to Future Farmers of America (FFA) clubs. Apparently Campbell’s also contracts with farmers who practice Integrated Pest Management and use sustainable soil care practices like conservation tillage, cover cropping, and crop rotation. Who knew?

Green Tip {Tuesday}

Try companion planting. Plan your spring garden so that you have pest repellent plants next to susceptible plants. Planting herbs such as mint, garlic, chives or coriander near your more vulnerable plants will help keep aphids away, for example. Find more information here.

The only reason I would ever consider living in New York City.

"Why not just buy a house in the country, where the soil doesn’t need to be elevated six stories? It would doubtless be easier, but …. The trees are getting larger now, and more birds are visiting the roof. Monarch butterflies migrate through. A beehive produced plentiful honey, until the colony collapsed last year. Charlotte picks berries for her cereal, eats fresh (pale blue) eggs, rides her tricycle on the grass, and has picnics in any season."
